Harmonica playing or as they were called in our regions - cymbula or music can rarely be heard today, and not so long ago no joy, prelo, fun or chord from Dalmatia to Slavonia could be imagined without this distinctive playing. At the Krajiski Prelo in Chicago we had a rare opportunity to, the older ones reminisce, and the younger ones maybe for the first time hear the playing of this once popular instrument performed by a guest from Canada Stanko Bijelic, a member of the home band "Cemer-Kordun" from Hamilton.

Half a century ago in Krajina there were parties, parties, drinking and parties were only held with live music. Gramaphones were a rarity, and we don't even talk about today's scalamery for song reproduction. Who was a good "player" he could not defend himself without playing every night. One of them was Stanko Cane Bijelic from Pejescanica from Kordun. He played the tambourines and harmonica. The young man went to Canada, but he didn't forget the gig. He has been performing for decades at weekend gatherings in Canada, America, but also in Serbia.
"Canada's first tambourine" will perform this year at Krajiski Prelo in Chicago 1. March 2025. of the year.
Playing the tambourine-alone is at the end of 2023. registered as an intangible cultural heritage of Serbs from Krajin, and as such enjoyed special protection. One of the audio recordings that has been kept as a heritage was just played by our диоane.
Welcome to Chicago!
